The bad press was the icing on the cake but this storm in the tea cup got all silent when in its first year of launch it bagged sales of $1 billion.

Viagra was not a drug it was lifestyle and what could hold it back from becoming global as what it promises to do is what people from Morocco to Fiji and China to Antarctica were suffering and it had the solution to that.

Though in the initial days there were a lot of legal hindrances in its way as it was something new and many countries were unsure about it though it was approved by Food and Drug Administration but authorities in EU and some other countries asked their doctors to prescribe it only in extremely unusual circumstances. Later this implicit ban was lifted and it use increased on the global scene as well.

Viagra soon became a notion for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction as anything that was used for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction; it was called Viagra. But there was a darker side to this as well and in many Asian countries, the counterfeit mafia went busy formulating ways to create drugs that were similar to Viagra and sold it under the brand name of Viagra.

The one that was very serious and surfaced in the initial day of its launch, which was mainly bad press which said that it can cause death, where some cases were reported but the investigations later revealed that some of them didn’t even took Viagra when they died and their death was caused because of their diabetic or heart problems.
Another misconception was that it heightens libido, or sex drive. This is not true. Viagra is not a sexual enhancer; it does not increase sex drive or heighten the sexual experience. These types of effects, and others that are psychological in nature, may be considered secondary to the increased potency of erection that Viagra provides.

Also to make people get over the societal barriers that hinders in the use of this drug there needs a lot of persuasion and to make feel the user that it’s not a crime or something to talk about their erectile dysfunction or look for ways to cure this problem as any one can suffer from this just like cough and cold.
In the initial days it was very difficult for them as they had to think of ways how to educate, persuade and promote their product. As they had an unchallenged monopoly in oral solution for erectile dysfunction drugs for 7 long years, so they least cared about the competition but the later discovery of side effects proved to be their biggest competitor and they really had to pull their socks in order to refute those people who were cashing in this loop hole of their brand.
Some of its commercials did caused a lot of controversy and were later banned, one such instance was where a man was shown that he grew horns after the intake of Viagra, as it passed a wrong message to the society but it was very true though.
